Omg. This was so good. Sliced a pork tenderloin (could use steak), cooked it on a cast iron griddle on the smoker with steak spice. Sliced up peppers, mushrooms, onions, jalapeños and fried that up with some steak spice. Made my pizza crust, put cream cheese around, then added meat and veggies, topped with mozzarella, pinched together, egg washed sprinkled with Italian spice and baked at 450 until it was browned. So good.
1/3 cup plus 1 Tbsp warm water 3/4 tsp yeast 1 tsp sugar 1 cup bread flour 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 tbsp olive oil add oregano and parmesan to dough
I triple this recipe so that we can have leftovers the next day
mix first 3 ingredients in bowl and leave for 5 min
put rest of ingredients in bread machine, add yeast mixture and run through dough cycle
place in bowl and refrigerate overnight
take dough out and let it get to room temperature for 2 hours before using
If you are in a rush you can use it the same day, we did tonight and the calzones were still great.
The filling can be a mixture of whatever you like. Tonight we made a pizza mixture, you chop up everything you would put on a pizza, cube your cheese, add in a small amount of pizza sauce (just until everything is coated) and we always add a little parmesan and Italian seasoning.
Roll your dough into small circles, about 1/8” thick, put your filling in, fold and pinch, make slits and then put an egg wash on top. We also sprinkled Italian seasoning and parmesan on the dough.
Bake at 425 for 15-20 min (or until golden brown).
This is a fantastic switch from our normal pepperoni and ham pizza. It is meatless as is, but it is also great with shredded chicken added to it. I add it in the first step when I do decide to add it.
1/2 cup mayonnaise
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup crumbled feta cheese, divided
1 (12 inch) pre-baked Italian pizza crust
1/2 cup oil-packed sun-dried tomatoes, coarsely chopped
1 tablespoon oil from the sun-dried tomatoes
1/4 cup pitted kalamata olives, coarsely chopped
1 teaspoon dried oregano
2 cups baby spinach leaves
1/2 small red onion, halved and thinly sliced
Adjust oven rack to lowest position, and heat oven to 450 degrees. Mix mayonnaise, garlic and 1/2 cup feta in a small bowl. Place pizza crust on a cookie sheet; spread mayonnaise mixture over pizza, then top with tomatoes, olives and oregano (and chicken if using). Bake until heated through and crisp, about 10 minutes.
Toss spinach and onion with the 1 Tbsp. sun-dried tomato oil. Top hot pizza with spinach mixture and remaining 1/2 cup feta cheese. Return to oven and bake until cheese melts, about 2 minutes longer. Cut into 6 slices and serve.
