Find your inner joy

Life is too short to not live it how we want. We need to find the things that make us the happiest and do more of them. This weekend I was lucky enough to attend a ladies night. We laughed so much that the next day my cheeks hurt and it felt like I had done the best abs workout ever. It is amazing how a night out with people you love is so good for the soul. It reminded me that I need to find more time to do the things that truly make me happy. It’s part of my plan for the year to focus on what makes me happy in life. It’s been way harder than I thought it would be. Why is that? Why do we allow ourselves to get wrapped up in the day to day stress? And why do we allow the negative people in our lives to drag us down with them? Or is that just me that allows that to happen?

I have found an oil blend that helps uplift me and makes me smile more. I use it in my diffuser regularly. It is:

A wonderful smelling blend that makes me smile

So here’s to all of us living the life we want to live, and enjoying things more!

What does it mean to be a young living distributor & why should you become one…

I have talked about using oils and why I think you want to do that (or why I think they have helped me and how I think they can help you) and I have talked about the starter kit, but I haven’t really taken the time to explain what it means to be a distributor. You may be thinking “I don’t want to sell oils, I just want to buy some for myself”. I know that’s exactly how I felt when I first started using essential oils. I didn’t want to sell them, I just wanted to use them for myself and my family. That is the perfect reason to sign up as a distributor. I still definitely recommend starting with the premium starter kit just because it gives you a lot of common oils at a fraction of the normal price so that you can try them out, but after that you just need to order 50pv (approximately $50) a year to keep your membership active.

I know, I still haven’t answered the question “why do I want to sign up as a distributor”, the main reason is that all the oils that you buy are 24% cheaper. So think of it as getting a membership to a discount group. You don’t need to sign people up under you, or do anything more than create an account so that you get your oils at a discounted price, and then you only have to order ~$50 a year to keep that membership active.

The other reason to become a distributor is that there is an opportunity to make money. Some people make enough money with young living to be able to quit their ” real” job and just focus on the young living business. The 24% that would have been made if you had bought the product at retail price instead of wholesale price is divided up as a commission to the people who signed you up and who signed them up and so on and so on. So once you are comfortable using the products and decide you would like to share your knowledge and the benefits of using oils you can get people to sign up as a distributor under you and then start generating some extra income. If you have more questions about this please email me and I will answer as many questions about how the commissions work. You can email me at karlav1@sasktel.net

Bergamont Essential Oil

I have been drawn to begamont essential oil for the last couple of months. I had bought it to make up a diffuser blend, and loved it as part of that, but hadn’t really researched what it’s uses were. Then I took part in a conference call earlier this month and they were talking about how we are often drawn to the oils that we need. Well I have definitely been drawn to bergamont and now I was curious why. I mean I knew I loved bergamont before I ever started with essential oils because earl grey tea has it and it’s one of my favourite teas. But that didn’t explain why I was so drawn to bergamont EO now.

The young living website lists begamont’s uses below:

Bergamot Essential Oil

Bergamot has a light, sweet citrusy scent. Uplifting and relaxing, it is good for building confidence and enhancing your mood. It has a long history of use for oily skin.

In Aromatherapy can be used topically:

  • to help reduce the symptoms of acne or boils.
  • to relieve minor skin irritation, cuts, bruises & burns.
  • to experience relief from eczema and dermatitis.
  • to help relieve headache.
  • or inhaled when experiencing digestive discomfort can act as a carminative and antispasmodic.
  • or inhaled to reduce the symptoms of cold & cough.

Well after reading this I’m pretty sure I have been so drawn to it because I needed help staying calm, and perhaps I subconsciously knew I needed the extra confidence boost to start a blog. I can’t say what the reason was for sure, but I know I was definitely self conscious about starting a blog, and felt a bit like puking after I hit publish on my first post. I’m feeling a bit better about it all now, don’t get me wrong, it’s still way out of my comfort zone, but I’m starting to feel a bit better about it all. So maybe I have bergamont to thank for the boost in confidence to actually do it. Or maybe some higher power was looking down on me and gave me a shove. Regardless I still love bergamont and I’m very happy that I took the leap out of my comfort zone and started this blog. Because although it scares me, it is also becoming something that I really enjoy.

The diffuser blend I mentioned in the beginning is also great as a rollerball blend that you can wear. I mixed it as I would for my diffuser but topped with a carrier oil in a 10ml rollerball.

I found the recipe on pinterest. It’s 3 drops Clary sage, 2 drops bergamont and 1 drop lavender. I think it smells amazing.

Purification essential oil

This oil is one of my go to oils that I got in my starter kit. I have ordered it numerous times since I got into young living. It does exactly what it’s name makes you think it would do. It freshens your air and environment. I’m very scent sensitive and have always gotten headaches from air fresheners. That leads to a pretty smelly truck when these are your co-workers that travel around with you…

Fantastic co-workers, but they don’t always smell the best 😏

I figured I would give purification a try in the home diffuser first to make sure that I wasn’t sensitive to it. Nothing worse than driving all day with a massive headache. I was in luck. It worked, the house smelled great and I didn’t have a headache. So next step was to try to it in the truck. It worked amazing. The truck smelled nice and clean and none of us had any issues with it. I have since used it in my dryer for laundry, much nicer than bounce sheets (in my opinion).  I add a couple drops to my wet laundry right before I throw it in the dryer. I usually find a towel to do it with or a pair of black socks just to make sure it isn’t directly on my favorite dress shirt.

I also use it in the summer to help deter all the pesty insects that seem to be able to ruin a great walk with the dogs in no time. I put the following blend in a rollerball and top with a carrier oil and put it on the dogs collars and on my exposed skin.

A great blend to help keep the bugs away

Sleeping issues

I have been a terrible sleeper for years, I am a very light sleeper and the slightest sound wakes me up. Which wasn’t a big deal when I was younger, but as I have gotten older I find that once something wakes me up I have a terrible time falling back asleep. My fitbit let me know that I was getting about 4 hours of sleep a night. Which confirmed my suspicion because I spend most days feeling exhausted.

I have tried numerous different tactics to help fall back to sleep and some of them worked brilliantly. But I found I was never consistent with them. They don’t help if you don’t follow them.

I recently found a rollerball recipe that seems to be helping out a lot so far. I’m sharing incase any of you want to try it.

10 drops vetiver

15 drops lavender

5 drops frankinsense

5 drops cedarwood

Top the rest of the rollerball with magnesium oil.

I roll it on the back of my neck before bed and so far it seems to be helping my sleep 😀

Maybe one day I’ll be able to sleep like my 2 Dogs

Lemon essential oil

I know this is a bit random to post right after Christmas, but with all the tags/sticker residue that was left on Christmas presents it has been getting a lot of use today. It amazes me how well it removes any of the tacky glue left behind on surfaces, and my hubby swears it takes grease off his hands better than anything else he has tried. And it smells fantastic. Such a nice clean fresh scent.

Lemon is on of the oils that comes in the premium starter kit from young living

Northern light black spruce essential oil

As I’m wrapping presents and getting everything organized for Christmas day I have northern lights black spruce going in the diffuser. It makes the whole place smell like I have the biggest Christmas tree. I love the smell of Christmas trees. It brings back so many great childhood memories of celebrating Christmas with the whole family.

It’s one of the oils that comes as a bonus oil in the starter kit. And it’s kinda neat that it’s made in Fort Nelson, BC

You can get the starter kit here

Lavender essential oil

Lavender comes in the premium starter kit. It was one oil that I was sure I wouldn’t like, because I hate the perfume scented products that claim to be lavender, but once I opened the bottle I was in love. It doesn’t smell anything like I expected it to. I use it anytime I’m feeling overwhelmed or I can’t settle my mind to go to sleep. I often add it to my bath with Epsom salts at night and it gets diffused in my room at night as well when I’m having one of those days.

It is also fantastic for easing the itch and hurt from bug bites and sun burns.

Young livings website lists the following for uses of lavender oil:

In Aromatherapy can be used topically:

to help relieve joint or muscle pain associated with sprains, strains & rheumatoid arthritis

or inhaled can act as a nervine and calmative which enhances relaxation

or inhaled to reduce the symptoms of cold & cough

when experiencing digestive discomfort can act as a carminative and antispasmodic

to help relieve headache

R.C essential oil

R.C is one of the oils that comes in the premium starter kit, and I think in our house it is one of the most commonly used oil. It really helps with chest or sinus congestion. I put it on my chest, back and feet anytime I am congested and fighting off a cough or cold, as well as diffuse it. It also works great if you put a few drops along the side of your shower and then have a hot shower or you can add it to your bath with some Epson salts.

Thieves essential oil

Thieves oil gets used more often than any other oil in our house. It was one of my least favourite smelling ones when I first got my starter kit, but once I saw how much it helped with coughs and colds I actually started liking the smell. And now it gets put in the diffuser anytime my hubby or I feel like we might be getting a cold. We also have a rollerball with carrier oil and thieves that gets put on our feet anytime we feel a little under the weather. It really seems to help both of us. It is one of the oils in the starter kit, and one of the oils I’ve purchased most often since because it gets used so often.
